If we had a quarter for every time we heard a softball parent say that they joined a team, only to find out that the other parents didn't welcome them - we would be wealthy, indeed. This bully baller mom (and dad) thing is apparently a thing.... A sad reality in youth sports is that despite their being plenty of room for every kid on the field to shine, parents are intimidated by other kids, especially new kids - who join their team and perhaps 'challenge' their child for a position or playing time. And boy can things get ugly and downright mean. One of the reasons there is so much … [Read more...]

The Softball Moms Prayer | Softball is for Girls
The Softball Moms Prayer Dear Lord, Thank you for allowing my daughter to play such an amazing game! I am grateful to watch her play and cherish every moment at the ballfield. Please keep her, her teammates, her coaches and her opponents out of harms way. May they always play hard, but fair. May they always play to win, but lose with integrity. Bully Softball Parents
We will start this post with a valuable reminder. The success of another child, in no way takes away, hinders, or diminishes the success of your child. There is enough room in this world for everyone to succeed. As someone who has been immersed in this fast-pitch life for a long time, I tend to take a back seat and sort of soak things in. So it was at a middle school tryout just a couple of weeks ago, I sat in my car and listened to a gaggle of softball parents checking out the 'new prospects' with ridicule and agitation and frustration. "If so and so makes it, its only because her mom … [Read more...]
For Softball Parents
Maybe just maybe, I would sleep in late - or plan a fancy dinner date. Eat a homemade breakfast served at noon, get an even suntan, while listening to tunes. Weed the yard and mow the grass, clean the gutters, save some cash. Get the laundry done and windows clean, catch up on all the shows I haven't seen. Spend the day relaxing at the pool or lake, grill a massive T-bone steak. Lounge in my favorite comfy chair, catch football GAMES playing live on air. Plant a garden, go to the mall, finally wash my car - interior and all. Take in a movie, train the dog, repaint the kitchen or take a … [Read more...]
“WE” versus “HER” – Softball Parenting
We got perhaps the BEST fan question ever last week. A fan question, that each of us as adults, and parents HAS to at least ask ourselves from time to time. When it comes to softball, and softball parents and players - most of us identify the it as a "WE" relationship. But is it REALLY a WE? Certainly, a parent must be committed to their daughters desire to play the sport both with time and money - and when our kids are very young we are still pretty much in charge of, and responsible for everything that they do. But once they get older - say 6th grade, 12U, (When participation … [Read more...]
