To All the Girls I’ve Coached Before
Over a decade in coaching, ensures you meet a lot of people. A lot of parents, a lot of coaches. The softball community is vast, but smaller than you think. Now that I am approaching the final year of 18U ball, I am blown away by the memories of all the girls I have coached before, and how often they cross my mind. While I thought I would remember those BIG wins, and those heartbreaking losses - the truth is I remember the faces, the laughter, and the dugout conversations much more! Some girls made me literally insane. They tested and tried every fiber of my coaching being. And yet as … [Read more...]

PITCHERS! Let's get right to this. This is new and you need to time to start making changes! There are BIG changes coming your way in 2020 in regard to rules! There has always been a ton of scrutiny on pitchers. Is she pitching legally, are both her feet in contact with the rubber? Are her hands moving correctly? It seems that especially opposing coaches are always very concerned about the legality of the pitching machine displayed by the pitcher they are facing. (Poor Kelly Barnhill) Umpires, coaches, parents, and pitchers who either DO NOT know the rules by organization, or do not … [Read more...]

“Put the Best Nine on the Field,” They Say….
“Put the VERY Best nine on the field”, they say Let the very best players make the play! But when it comes to which nine to choose Everyone has very different views. Who will catch, who will pitch? If Sally starts can her and Em switch? If Meg goes to first, and Lou to 2nd, Then Babs will have to play short, I reckon. But then, the outfield will be quite bare Because no ones mom wants their daughter out there. And if Jordan plays 3rd and Mo’s at first Then Lilas dad will have an outburst. Then there’s Jo, Mack, Mary and Grace Where will they play, who goes in which space? We have 12 … [Read more...]
Ladies…Would you PLEASE JUST Learn to Freakin’ ADJUST YOURSELF!?
If you have watched the game long enough, you realize pretty quick that softball. like life is a game of adjustments. One thing we notice with prevalence especially among the younger players is that it is their failure to adjust that often leads to bad outcomes. We have a generation of youngsters that do not want to adjust to things around them, and who think that doing the same thing over and over again, will bring different results. NEWSFLASH. It doesn't! If there is one takeaway from softball, or sports in general - it is that every situation requires players to be able to … [Read more...]
The Classiest, Most Sportsmanlike Team in Softball | Berrien High School SOFTBALL
Nowadays we hear so much about the awful sportsmanship we encounter on the softball fields. From obnoxious parents and arrogant players with attitudes, and rudeness and even fighting among parents - we had to share perhaps one of the most beautiful things we have ever experienced on the softball field. Region winners from around the state play 2 rounds of a 2 for 3 series against the top 4 teams from regions around the state. The goal of course is to get to the Elite 8, … [Read more...]
“Wow, you Throw Pretty good, For a Girl,” He said!
"Wow, you throw pretty good for a girl," he said after she tossed him back his baseball when it landed in foul territory. It was almost too familiar of a comment made innocently by a 12-year-old boy to our daughter when she threw back the baseball they had been playing with when it was hit foul. It was reminiscent of something that happened years ago while my older daughter was practicing pitching on an empty field when a group of boys from a local High School baseball team came to get a little practice in. They watched her hurl balls to her dad on a bucket, and I wasn't sure … [Read more...]

I’m Sorry You Heard Me Say Your Daughter Sucks
It's pretty much a guarantee that this post will bring out ALL THE TROLLS who want to judge from behind a computer screen. If not because of the subject matter, because of the fact that we used the word "Sucks" in the title. And because of the...."OH THE HORROR of someone saying something bad about another child on their own team, those poor kids being raised by a horrible mother who does something like that. She should be ashamed of herself blah blah blah blah" This parent should be kicked right off the team, what kind of example is he/she setting by saying something so offensive!?!?!?! … [Read more...]
