TAKE THE GUESS WORK OUT OF PROPER HYDRATION – A MOM’S PERSONAL JOURNEY IN FINDING A SOLUTION
Written by Mia Woodlee
As a softball parent I am extremely diligent in monitoring my daughter’s intake of water during practice and games. She suffered from heat exhaustion several years ago when she first began playing softball. It was an eye-opening experience to say the least. As a parent I really had no idea what kind of water intake was required for an athlete to maintain their focus and concentration. We live in Texas and the summer heat can be brutal especially on Championship Sunday when the team may have to play up to 7 games in a row to bring home the hardware. Even on days with moderate temperatures it is important for athletes to stay hydrated so that they can stay focused and energized.
We have tried various sports drinks but my daughter is very finicky and didn’t really care for the taste. Then we turned to water with added electrolytes to try and battle the dehydration. When I was introduced to a new product called H9 Hydrogen-Rich Structured Water several months ago I was more than willing to give it a try. It is said to be the “Next Generation Water.” Structured water absorbs more easily into your cells plus it delivers vitamins and minerals more efficiently which in turn gives your body that extra energy needed to compete. It tastes just like regular bottled water so trying to convince my teenage daughter to drink it was a breeze.
My daughter loves the fact that it doesn’t take as much of the H9 Water to stay hydrated and she doesn’t have to deal with the bloated feeling that she use to get with drinking regular water. Being the first one on the field and the last one off the field with extra energy to burn is just an added bonus!
While H9 Water is more expensive than normal bottled water…remember the old saying: “You get what you pay for!” If I can spend $300 on a bat, $200 on a glove, $50 on a lesson every week, plus monthly team dues, not to mention an exorbitant amount of money traveling around the country to watch my daughter play the game she loves then a few extra dollars on a product that will keep her healthy, focused, and energized is a small price to pay.

Maybe if we don’t subject the players to playing so many ridiculous amounts of games in a day, then maybe, just maybe, dehydration and lack of nutrition won’t be a major factor to have to worry about. I live in AZ and am well aware and consious of the dangers of both. But playing 7 games in one day? That’s ridiculous! If you as a parent can afford all that money in order for your daughter to play, that’s awesome, we all survived on hose water. A peanut butter & jelly sandwich and Gatorade give you all the replenishment you need. Pre and Post work outs.

Don’t buy into the structure water myth. It is the modern day snake oil scam.
