They say the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. And parents, are certainly proof of that. We collectively all want what is best for our children, worry obsessively about their successes and failures, and lie awake at night worrying about making sure we are making the right decisions for them. And even so, each of us, on a daily basis, get caught up in the emotions (the most prominent of which is LOVE) and screw things up somehow or another. Let's just admit it, parents are imperfectly perfect creatures, and thank goodness life (and parenthood) is full of Grace! So today, 6 Simple … [Read more...]
Real talk and advice from Softball is for Girls in response to our readers' craziest (and not so crazy) questions! What do you want to know??
Today's Question: I have a question as my team moves into fall. Is it really a bad thing to just be okay with having a "C level" team? I have a couple players that could definitely make a "B" team and maybe even an "A" team but the girls all get along and have fun playing together and so do the parents. I realize that we won't be able to compete with the higher level teams so we would only play in "C" or maybe a "B" level. Is that a bad thing? The numbers of girls playing softball, is GROWING. And it is GROWING because more and more because there are more and more teams and more and … [Read more...]
The dream of a softball emoji is nothing new. Each year, when new emoji's are released, us softballers wait anxiously to see our beautiful safety green ball with 88 red laces, so we can quit using the daggone baseball (or tennis ball). And then there is the disappointment because, guess what... IT'S NOT THERE! Equality is something that all of us, in the female athletic community, are used to not having. The lack of a softball emoji feels like just yet another slap in the face, with no Title 9 to make it better. We have whined, complained, taken to social media, moaned and talked … [Read more...]
Having trouble on how to address a situation. I'm a coach 10U. After 4 balls I pitch to my girls. I didn't do my best with one girl and she struck out. She immediately goes to the dugout, gets in my daughter's face, and says "your mom sucks". I'd like to just let her know that if she has a problem she needs to come to me instead of my daughter. I already felt bad for the less than perfect pitches. I could use some advice. Wow. Sigh. When we relaunched we promised to add a "Dear Abby" style Ask SIFG to our website that would not politically correct and would be honest... SO here we … [Read more...]
We have never done a bat review before. Not sure why considering we have a ton of girls using a ton of different bats, and it is always one of our most ASKED fan questions. Everyone wants to know - what is the best bat out there? Which bat has the most pop? Which bat will help my daughter reach the fences, and hit dingers? The reality is that all of the bats out there today are pretty dang good. The front runners in the bat market are still Lousiville Slugger and Demarini. (Now both owned by Wilson Sports) and of course Easton. Raising 4 softball players, we have utilized all of … [Read more...]
Softball is a rough sport. It's hard on the body, and as more and more of us are finding ourselves playing year round - there are no doubt a ton of injuries going around. Our daughter, a pitcher - who was at peak performance suffered an untimely sport ending arm injury the spring before her senior year in high school, AFTER receiving several offers from colleges, that left her unable to pitch. Or at least pitch well. She pushed herself through it, completely determined and head strong and obviously so disappointed that after years of hard work, THIS was the time she would get hurt, and … [Read more...]
